Irelands Littlest Heroes get their Feet Dirty for the Cow + Gate Big Toddler for Barnardos

22.04.2015

22 April 2015. Ireland’s toddlers are dusting off their shoes to become Little Heroes for the 12th Cow & Gate Big Toddle for Barnardos. Thousands of toddlers across Ireland are taking up the challenge to toddle a half-mile and raise €250,000 for Barnardos’ work with vulnerable children and families around Ireland. Mums, dads, grandparents, parenting groups, schools and crèches can register their Little Heroes for this fun sponsored walk now at www.barnardos.ie/bigtoddle.

The Cow & Gate Big Toddle for Barnardos is a fun way to support the vital work that Barnardos does with children and families in communities all over Ireland. A Big Toddle can be held anywhere, anytime between 1st May and 31st June. Everyone who registers will receive a free Big Toddle pack in the post with all the fun things they need to organise a Big Toddle for their Little Heroes – hats, stickers, medals, posters and more! The entire cost of the pack and materials has been covered by Cow & Gate, so all funds raised by Ireland’s toddlers go directly to support Barnardos work.

Speaking at the launch, TV3 Xposé presenter Aisling O’Loughlin said, “I am thrilled to be involved in this year’s Cow & Gate Big Toddle for Barnardos. It’s a brilliant event that lets our toddlers become Little Heroes for a day– for some little ones this will be their first experience of helping other children their own age which is just a wonderful thing for children to learn from a young age. I urge families all over the country to get involved and organise their own Big Toddle – the kids love it and it’s great fun to get the whole family involved. As a mum of two little men myself, it means a lot to me to help Barnardos in their work with children and families across Ireland.”

Mary Gamble, Barnardos Fundraising Manager, said, “The most recent CSO figures show that almost one in eight children in Ireland, more than the total population of county Mayo, are now living in consistent poverty. Barnardos is here for these children and families, but we need your help to ensure this work can continue. By taking part in the Cow & Gate Big Toddle for Barnardos your Little Heroes will be helping to change these children’s lives.”

“The great thing about the Big Toddle is that it can be held anywhere. Families can hold an event in their back gardens, or organise a group Toddle in their estate. Each and every step taken will have a huge impact on the lives of Ireland’s vulnerable children.”

Susan Weldon, Brand Manager, Cow & Gate said, “We are delighted to be involved in the Big Toddle for a third consecutive year. What we love about the Big Toddle is that it allows Ireland’s toddlers take part in a fun activity that actually helps other children their own age. It’s wonderful to see children learning about the needs of others and how they can make a difference so early on in life. We’re thrilled to be the sponsors again this year and we encourage everyone with toddlers to sign up today and get involved.”
The Big Toddle for Barnardos is now in its 12th year.
